Entering into Sabbath rest Today huh? Have we entered that Sabbath rest? God says if we have not entered His "Sabbath rest" we are not His people. What does that mean though? Hebrews 4:1 says "the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it." Heb. 4:6 "those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience."
God rested on the seventh day, then with the 1st Covenant it was also commanded of the Isrealites coming out of Egypt. With the 2nd Covenant, Jesus fulfilled the physical sacrifices and requirements of the first. Hebrews 5:5-6 Now Jesus became our High Priest and sacrifice for all our sins, that we might now be free, His Spirit now living within us if we have personally accepted His sacrifice for us, we now bare the fruits of the Spirit within, and so through faith we have enter that Sabbath rest. Matt.11:28-30 He says His yoke is light. The deception of the world, the devil, and our carnal nature all tell us the way of the world, the broad path is the easy, rewarding way when really its just full of a lot of hardship, disappointment, and confusion. Men need to be men, strong, confident, decisive, respectful, self-disciplined, leaders in their world as the Spirit so faithfully guides and enables, women need to be solid, supportive, capable and yes respectful. Yes, that sounds like it would hurt, but in reality it will only bless, and yes also as the Spirit guides. This is as God wonderfully created and powerfully Blesses. Life, Spirit within, committed to God first, then to our respective "better halfs", family, brothers and sisters in Christ, the calling, care and betterment of the society around. We will have entered into that Sabbath rest and in our hearts we will know it. We will even in our most difficult trials know that peace, joy, and rest with our Awesome God. We will be vigilant to be fervent in our walk with God. We are all in. We were never to be bystanders. Hebrews 2:1 "pay careful attention to what we have heard, so that we do not "drift" away." We were given even greater calling or potential than the angels. Hebrews 2:3 "How shall we escape if we ignore such a great salvation?" :4 "gifts of the Holy Spirit distributed according to His will." God gives us an ear to hear as He calls us and gives us the ability to respond and act. But here He includes dire warning. Heb. 3:10-13 "Their hearts are always going astray, and they have not known my ways. So I declare on oath in my anger, they shall never enter my rest. See to it that none of you has a sinful, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God. But encourage one another daily, ...so that none of you may be hardened by sin's deceitfulness." 4:2-3 "for we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said," 3:7 "Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts"
Hebrews 4:12-13 "For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, ...it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God's sight Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account."
Hebrew 4:16 "Let us approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need." There is hope and future for us all, we must confidently and humbly walk in it!
The Spirit also intercedes on our behalf. (Gal 5+5) This is the fear, love, respect we are to have for our Creator, life-giver, sustainor, who has awesome purpose in us each. He holds His hand out to us each Today. It is Today and everyday we can and must take hold and enter into that Sabbath rest. God Blesses Wonderfully! Much love, Henry
